In bygone days, Tyrol Castle was the seat of the Counts of Tyrol. Today, Dorf Tirol is a vibrant village with endless leisure activities: Tennis, paragliding, mountain biking and, of course, hiking.

The Hochmuth cable car will swing you up to the hights of 1,500 m asl, right to the Texel Group Nature Reserve. From the Muthöfen you can enjoy breath-taking views over the Meraner Land and the Etsch Valley, and it is also the perfect set-off point to immerse yourself in the mountain landscape on hikes to the rustic mountain pastures and picturesque mountain lakes, the peaks of the Texel mountains and the Meran High Mountain Trail.

You can get to the spa city of Meran on foot, by car in just a few minutes’ drive, by bus or by chairlift. The Trauttmansdorff Castle Botanical Gardens, named Italy’s Most Beautiful Garden in 2005, are well worth a visit, as is the Meran Spa, an out-and-out paradise of relaxation. The old city of Meran, with its Mediaeval arcade and 19th century villas, Italian street cafes, the Passer promenade and the famed Tappeinerweg Trail, where Empress Sissi once strolled, are all supremely inviting destinations for a pleasant, relaxing stroll.
